Iâve been hearing a lot of stories lately about people losing their dogs. Itâs always nice when the story has a happy ending but sadly thatâs not always the case.
Not every lost dog is a homeward bound story. Some dogs can get around the corner and not be able to find their way home.
Itâs important to tag your dog. There are machines at all of the pet stores that allow you to make a tag for about $ 10.
Our advice when you create a tag is:
- Donât put your dogâs name on the tag â strangers donât need to know your dogâs name.
- Donât put your home address on the tag â people donât need to know where your home is when they see you at the park.
- Do put the cell phone number on the tag of the person who has their phone with them the most.
- If you have a phone line at home, put that number on it too.
- Do put âNeeds Medicationâ on the tag â a bad guy doesnât want to steal a sick dog and if your dog gets lost and a good person finds them, they will feel a sense of urgency to get them back to you.
You should also have a microchip implanted in your dog. Donât watch it happen. Itâs a big needle. I saw it done at a shelter once and had to leave the room. Iâm a wimp with that kind of stuff when it comes to dogs and I could feel my stomach rolling.
If you chip your dog, register them with a service like HomeAgain.com, PetLink.net or the Microchip Registration Center.
If you ever lose a dog or find a dog, there are a few services out there that might be able to assist you.

So we hope it never happens to you and your dog, but it doesnât hurt to be prepared for it if it does.
